Objects

Characters, items and enemies as fields that others inherit and override.

1 min read

An object is a thing in your game (a character, an item, an enemy, a level) described by fields: health: 100, speed: 4.5, faction: "Rebels".

Objects inherit. Make a base like Enemy, then Goblin under it: Goblin gets all of Enemy’s fields and only changes the ones that differ. Change Enemy later, and every enemy follows.

  1. + New›Object.
  2. Name it, and optionally pick the object it inherits from.
  3. Click Edit, add fields, then Save.

Tip: start with a base (Actor, Enemy, Weapon), then add variants under it.

  1. Open it and click Edit.
  2. Change fields. Inherited fields show their parent’s value: type over one to override it here.
  3. Click Save.

While you edit, the object is locked: others see who’s editing it and wait until you save.

  • The Objects panel shows objects nested under their parents.
  • An object’s header reads like Inherits from Actor › Enemy › Goblin.
  • Each object lists the objects that extend it, with a button to add one.

In a field, type @ to link a doc, a graph, another object or a task, like "weapon": "@Sword".

To compare and edit a whole family side by side (every weapon’s damage, for example), link a table to the base object.
